Daron “Dr. Comeback” Fordham, Award-Winning Filmmaker, Author and Former Tech CEO, has agreed to answer five questions about his exciting new sports-based card game creation called FLORTS. Daron is the author of an inspirational book, LIFE IS A COMEBACK, and is a serial entrepreneur who has created and sold numerous companies in the entertainment and tech industries.
1. What inspired you to create the FLORTS Card Game?
There were always packs of regular playing cards in my house growing up. I wasn’t really into playing cards like my older siblings but I would always create little mind games for myself with the numbered cards. I’m an avid sports fan so about four years ago I started working on a game that combined card playing with popular sports.
2. What does the name FLORTS mean?
FLORTS means “For The Love of Sports”. We have 15 different sports featured card games including Football, Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, Hockey and more. We even have Golf, MMA and Boxing. We have every major sport covered. The game is easy to learn and one to six players can play. The average game takes three to five minutes to complete. It’s really fun. I have play tested the game across the country and folks have a blast with it. I enjoy watching the players become super competitive rather quickly as they start understanding how to use various strategies to win the game. It’s been cool to watch.
3. What kind of investors would you like to join you on this venture?
I am really interested in athletes, entertainers and influencers coming in as investors and endorsers of FLORTS. It’s always shocking to see pro ballers and artists spend hundreds of thousands of dollars and sometimes even millions of dollars on shiny necklaces, watches and foreign cars but they won’t invest in a fast-growing idea or company that could pay them dividends forever or provide them with an enormously profitable exit. Their agents and managers will support them in buying depreciating assets like useless jewelry and overpriced vehicles but will strongly advise them against investing in new ideas or companies. It’s a sad situation and I want to help change that narrative. Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, recently said that over 30 people turned him down for a $50k investment in Amazon in 1994. Now that single $50k investment that he asked for is worth over $15 billion dollars today. That’s amazing. Now I’m not saying FLORTS will be worth billions but I know that people love sports and people love playing cards so we are bringing these trillion dollar industries together in one exciting game. The demand for something new, fun, offline and family-friendly is very high so we feel FLORTS will be a profitable venture very quickly.
4. Are you willing to sell FLORTS now in the early stages to a big toy and game company or will you ignore the early offers?
That’s the ideal entrepreneur dilemma, right? My mentor, Tony Robbins, the famous life coach and business strategist, always speaks about preparing your company to create maximum value in the marketplace at all times. I am 100 percent attached to FLORTS and what has been created thus far but when Mattel, Hasbro, Fanatics or whoever comes knocking on the door and waving the big check then I have to be fair to my investors and cash it out. In my last exit, my partners and I sold our CrowdAlbum app to Spotify in 2016. It was a great buyout so we have no regrets but it’s always a little difficult to part with your creation. Of course, FLORTS is my baby so it’s much more personal this time around but if the deal makes sense for the brand and the investors then we will proceed for sure. Cash is king.
5. What are the next crucial steps for your FLORTS Card Game?
By early 2026, we will wrap up our Seed Funding Round and be off to the races. We will be tapping into the consulting services of successful game creators like Ken Johnson, the inventor of PHASE 10, the second best-selling card game in the world behind UNO and Rob Angel, the creator of PICTIONARY, one of the best-selling board games of all time. We will also begin to do mini-launches of FLORTS at major sporting events such as the NCAA Final Four, MLB Opening Day, NFL Draft, NBA Finals, etc. Our official world launch is planned for the FIFA 2026 World Cup in the summer of 2026. From there we plan on taking over the world and being in every household on the planet someday. That’s my dream so let me get to work. Thank you very much for the interview. Go FLORTS.
