The Great Explorations Children's Museum is preparing to take its biggest step forward yet with the creation of a new Discovery Center and is inviting the community to help shape its future.

The museum will host a series of community forums that will give residents an exclusive first look at plans for the Discovery Center while gathering input and ideas to help guide the project.

"For decades, Great Explorations has sparked a love of learning in young children. Now, we're ready to grow alongside the children who grew up with us," said Angeline Howell, CEO of Great Explorations Children's Museum, in a press release. "The Discovery Center is our next chapter, expanding hands-on learning for older kids and teens. We want families, educators and young people to help shape a place that inspires curiosity and discovery for generations to come."

Museum officials said the Discovery Center will expand opportunities for children to experiment with chemistry, build robots, explore space, create with 3D printers, tackle engineering challenges and participate in other hands-on STEM activities.

Beginning July 8, Great Explorations will host a series of community forums to gather public feedback that will help shape the center's exhibits, educational programming and overall visitor experience.

The one-hour forums will be held on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, July 8, at 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

  • Wednesday, July 15, at 4 p.m. (Youth Community Forum; children are encouraged to attend.)

  • Thursday, July 16, at 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

  • Wednesday, July 22, at 8 a.m.

The forums are free and open to the public, but registration is strongly encouraged.
