The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office will conduct active threat response training at several local schools over the next two weeks as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency preparedness and coordination among law enforcement personnel.

The training exercises are scheduled for the following dates and locations:

  • Wednesday, June 3, 2026: Mulrennan Middle School in Valrico and Ben Hill Middle School in Carrollwood

  • Thursday, June 4, 2026: Mulrennan Middle School in Valrico

  • Wednesday, June 10, 2026: Bloomingdale High School in Brandon and Sickles High School in Tampa

  • Thursday, June 11, 2026: Sickles High School in Tampa

  • Residents can expect an increased law enforcement presence at the schools during the exercises, including marked patrol vehicles and specialized units.

According to HCSO, the training is designed to strengthen rapid-response tactics and improve communication among school resource deputies, patrol deputies and specialized units during active threat situations.

"Training like this is critical to ensuring our deputies are prepared to respond when every second counts," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a press release. "Using real school campuses during non-school hours allows our teams to strengthen communication, improve response tactics, and enhance coordination between units. The safety of our students and staff will always remain our top priority."

HCSO emphasized that the exercises will take place during non-school hours and that all safety precautions will be in place. The agency is encouraging residents to be aware of the scheduled training activities and not be alarmed by the increased law enforcement presence at the campuses.
