New Independent Label Bets on Rock's Next Generation with Artist-First Approach

TBO Contributor

While much of the music industry chases viral trending bands, a new independent label out of Frisco, Texas is making a different wager: that rock music still has something to say, and that developing artists still matters.

Resolute Recordings officially launched this week as a sister label to Affiant Records, led by a team of music industry veterans who believe authenticity trumps insincerity. Their mission is straightforward—find talented rock bands and give them the time and resources to grow.

"Resolute Recordings has been a vision of mine for a while now," said William J. Metzger. "I'm excited to be able to work so closely with our artists on both the creation, production, and releases of their music. We are a group of creative professionals that will set the standard for music and entertainment through our writing, recording, and live performances."

First Signing Shows the Vision

The label's inaugural signing demonstrates their commitment to discovering raw talent. Stealing Handshakes, a four-piece alt-rock band from Pampa, Texas, caught the team's attention at the LAUNCH Music Conference in Dallas. The band has built a reputation for high-energy live shows and a sound that pulls from Foo Fighters and Soundgarden—raw and compelling, accessible but uncompromising.

Stealing Handshakes has already opened for national acts including Kansas and Horizon Theory, proving they can hold their own on bigger stages. Their rock music catalog tackles weighty subject matter: "Chloroform" confronts substance abuse and self-destruction, "The Fallout" explores relationship fractures, and "Ellipsis" examines the fragmented nature of modern dating.

The band's self-titled debut album drops April 24th, 2026, marking a significant moment for both the group and their new label home.

Building for the Long Haul

What sets Resolute Recordings apart is their explicit focus on artist development—a concept that often gets lost in an industry obsessed with immediate returns. The label's philosophy centers on the belief that real music endures, and that resilience matters in the music industry.

This approach extends beyond just recording. The team works closely with artists through the entire creative process, from writing and production to live performance strategy. It's an investment-heavy model that requires patience, but one the independent record label believes will pay dividends as they build a roster of artists with staying power.

In an industry where rock has been repeatedly declared dead, Resolute Recordings is placing a bet that reports of the genre's demise have been greatly exaggerated. Their success will depend on whether there's still an audience hungry for guitar-driven music with substance—and whether artist development in rock music can still build sustainable careers in 2026.
