On Tuesday night, Jonas Johansson made 32 saves, Brayden Point scored and assisted, and the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Hurricanes 3-0.
The other Tampa Bay goals came from Alex Barré-Boulet and Nicholas Paul.
Pyotr Kochetkov made 20 saves for the Hurricanes, who have now lost three in a row and are 2-4 on their six-game road trip.
Johansson is replacing Andrei Vasilevskiy, who underwent back surgery last month and is anticipated to return in late November or early December. Midway through the third, he made a fantastic save on Martin Necas to earn his first shutout of the season and his second overall.
Point, who scored 51 goals last season, ended a six-game goal drought in the first period with a deflection of Victor Hedman’s shot on a power play with 54 seconds remaining.
At 17:51 of the second period, Barré-Boulet made it 2-0 on a redirection. Point assisted on the goal for the eighth time. With roughly three minutes remaining in the third period, Paul scored.
The game ended with a couple of scrums and a fight in the final three minutes after Paul’s goal.
Sebastian Aho, the Hurricanes’ center, returned after missing three games with an upper body injury.
