Tampa Police Department asks public for help in fatal hit-and-run investigation

A 19-year-old bicyclist died after a hit-and-run crash near West Waters Avenue and North Albany Avenue on May 25, and Tampa Police are asking the public for help identifying a 2013-2016 Toyota RAV4 believed to be involved.

Tampa Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred Monday night near West Waters Avenue and North Albany Avenue.

According to police, a 19-year-old woman was riding her bicycle westbound on W. Waters Ave. around 10:05 p.m. on May 25 when she was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound in the far-right lane.

Investigators said the driver hit the bicyclist and fled the scene, leaving the woman seriously injured. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries on May 26.

Detectives said several vehicle parts were recovered from the scene were identified as belonging to a 2013-2016 Toyota RAV4.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or was in the area at the time to contact the Tampa Police Department at (813) 231-6130.

Investigators are also encouraging nearby residents and business owners to review surveillance footage that could help identify the vehicle involved.

The investigation remains active, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
