Tampa’s signature waterfront festival returns this weekend, transforming the entire length of the Riverwalk into a vibrant celebration of local culture, cuisine, and community.
Riverfest 2025, scheduled for May 2-3, promises to be the most expansive iteration yet, with activities spanning from Water Works Park to the Tampa Convention Center. The free, family-friendly event will showcase Tampa’s cultural institutions, feature performances by local musicians, and highlight the city’s diverse restaurant scene.
“This year’s Riverfest represents the largest footprint we’ve ever had,” says Shaun Drinkard, Executive Director of Friends of the Riverwalk. “With over 100 participating vendors, performers, and cultural organizations, we’re truly showcasing the best of what makes Tampa special.”
Friday’s festivities kick off at 4 p.m. with the popular Taste of Riverwalk event, where attendees can sample signature dishes from more than 30 local restaurants. Live music begins at 5 p.m. at the Curtain Call Stage near the Tampa Museum of Art, featuring local favorite The Black Honkeys headlining at 8 p.m.
Saturday brings a full day of activities beginning at 10 a.m., with the highlight being the expanded Taco Fest, now in its third year as part of Riverfest. Located at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, the event will feature 25 local vendors offering creative taco interpretations, from traditional Mexican street-style to innovative fusion options.
Families with children will find plenty of entertainment at the Kids Zone in Water Works Park, including hands-on art projects facilitated by the Tampa Museum of Art, science demonstrations from MOSI, and wildlife encounters courtesy of The Florida Aquarium.
Water activities include free kayak demonstrations at the Tampa Convention Center docks, dragon boat racing exhibitions, and guided stand-up paddleboard tours of the Hillsborough River (pre-registration required).
The event will also feature the return of the popular Riverwalk Scavenger Hunt, where participants can win prizes by visiting various locations along the waterfront and completing designated activities.
“Riverfest has evolved into Tampa’s signature spring event,” says Mayor Jane Castor. “It’s a perfect opportunity for residents and visitors alike to experience the unique character of our city while enjoying our beautiful waterfront.”
Parking will be available in downtown garages with additional satellite parking and free shuttle service from the Fort Homer Hesterly Armory. Attendees are encouraged to use rideshare services, the TECO Streetcar, or Coast Bikes to alleviate parking congestion.
