The wait is finally over for Tampa coffee enthusiasts as Dutch Bros Coffee has opened its doors at 3616 West Ballast Point Boulevard in South Tampa. The Oregon-based drive-thru coffee chain, known for its upbeat "broistas" and diverse drink menu, welcomed its first customers on Saturday, May 10, offering $3 medium drinks to celebrate the grand opening.
Long lines of vehicles wrapped around the building as Tampa residents eagerly awaited their first taste of the West Coast sensation. The 950-square-foot drive-thru-only location replaces what was formerly Ballast Point Car Wash, transforming the corner into the company's first Tampa outpost.
"We're thrilled to finally bring Dutch Bros to Tampa," said a company representative at the opening. "The response has been overwhelming, and we're excited to become part of this vibrant community."
Founded in 1992 in Grants Pass, Oregon, Dutch Bros began as a single espresso pushcart operated by brothers Dane and Travis Boersma. The company has since grown to more than 800 locations across the United States, developing a cult-like following for both its beverages and customer service culture.
The South Tampa location offers the full Dutch Bros experience, including their signature drinks like the Golden Eagle (a caramel and vanilla breve with caramel drizzle), the Cocomo (espresso with coconut and chocolate milk), and the Annihilator (espresso with chocolate macadamia nut breve). Beyond coffee, the menu features an extensive selection of energy drinks, smoothies, and teas.
Unlike many coffee shops, this Dutch Bros operates exclusively as a drive-thru, with no indoor seating available. The streamlined service model focuses on speed and efficiency while maintaining the brand's reputation for exceptionally friendly customer interactions.
The company's "broistas" have earned nationwide recognition for their cheerful demeanor and engaging service style. This customer-first approach has helped distinguish Dutch Bros from competitors in the crowded coffee market and contributed to their rapid expansion.
For the Tampa location, Dutch Bros has created approximately 40 new jobs, with the company still accepting applications for additional "broistas" through their website.
Beyond beverages, Dutch Bros maintains a commitment to community involvement. Through its Dutch Bros Foundation and local franchisees, the company donates millions annually to various causes nationwide, a philanthropy model they plan to implement in Tampa as well.
The South Tampa location operates from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, catering to early birds and night owls alike.
As Dutch Bros establishes its Tampa presence, expansion plans for additional locations throughout the region are already underway, with a Riverview location reportedly in development.
