Although it will not rain all day, storms will be distributed around the Tampa Bay area today, with a 70% probability of rain.
Storms will come in from the north and the Gulf of Mexico on and off, owing to the system that is currently stalled to our north.
It will be windy, muggy, and warm outside of any storms, with highs in the upper 80s.
Storms will begin this morning and continue through the early evening before dissipating tonight.
Rain chances will increase again on Wednesday, with another wave of heavy rain predicted. Winds will continue to blow, and the extreme humidity will persist.
Moreover, tropics are getting hotter. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring Tropical Storm Bret and a tropical wave that is expected to form.
Tropical Storm Bret is making its way west over the Atlantic, roughly midway between Africa and the Lesser Antilles.
It is expected to move west and into the Caribbean Sea by the end of the week. It has the potential to strengthen into a hurricane and hit several of the islands this weekend.
Due to stronger winds (wind shear) around the storm, it is not expected to strengthen further in the Caribbean and may even weaken.
After Saturday, forecast models have little confidence in where Bret will go and how strong it will be. It could head north into the Atlantic, or it could head west into the Caribbean. It will be something to keep an eye on early next week, but it should not be cause for panic.
Invest 93L, the tropical wave behind Bret, is still showing organization and has a good probability of developing into a tropical depression or storm in the next few days. Forecast models indicate that this one will recurve north and remain in the Atlantic through next week.
