Because of smoke from hundreds of wildfires burning in Canada, air quality alerts were issued in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Manatee, and Sarasota counties on Wednesday.
The New York Times reported that hundreds of wildfires burning throughout Canada are contributing to the smoke and haze lingering over portions of North America.
As of Tuesday morning, the outlet said Tampa’s air quality is “unhealthy for some” with an Air Quality Index of 109.
Officials are advising persons with lung problems and other health issues to restrict their time outside.
Today’s foggy and smoky conditions will improve throughout the day.
Moreover, the plume of smoke from Canadian wildfires will move west across the Gulf of Mexico tomorrow.
