Tampa Weather Today: NHC tracks Tropical Storm Philippe

For today's Tampa Bay Observer weather update, tropical Storm Philippe and a disturbance with a high likelihood of formation are being tracked by the National Hurricane Center.

Meteorologists predict that a tropical wave will form several hundred miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands in the next days.

The system has a 60% chance of developing in the next two days and a 90% chance of developing in the next seven days.

According to the NHC, the system will most likely become a tropical depression in two to three days.

Tropical Storm Philippe, which is roughly 925 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands, is also being monitored by meteorologists.

The storm is still unorganized and is anticipated to fade gradually over the following few days. The maximum sustained winds are currently near 50 mph.
